Jamie Chambers

Where?

Jamie alternates between the offices of Signal Fire Studios and his home in north Georgia. And while he’s not unknown at a local coffee shop or neighborhood bar, he sometimes travels to conventions, store game days, and other events. Here’s the place to find out where Jamie plans to be in 2009.

GaryCon (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) – March 7-8, 2009

The hobby gaming world was deeply saddened when Gary Gygax, the co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, passed away last year. Gary was a legendary hero of my childhood, and after moving to Lake Geneva I technically became a neighbor. As we did following his funeral, we will honor Gary by playing games and celebrating his life. My thanks to the Gygax family for putting on this event and inviting locals and the gaming community. You’ll find me there playing games and having fun with my friends, so if you stop by please say hello!

I-Con (Long Island, New York) – April 3-5, 2009

This is my fourth years as an honored guest at I-Con, a show that will for the first time not be on the campus of Stony Brook University. My partner-in-crime, Cam Banks, will be attending with me and it will be one of the early places we reveal some of the new things we’ve been up to lately. Thanks to Cherise Fung and James Carpio for bringing me out again among their great list of guests and games!

GAMA Trade Show (Las Vegas, Nevada) – April 14-17, 2009

GTS is an important trade event in the hobby games industry, bringing game manufacturers, distributors, and retailers together for important business-to-business face time. I’ll be revealing upcoming products and plans, talking shop with game industry folks, and attending meetings with the GAMA board of directors.

Lake Geneva Game Convention (Lake Geneva, Wisconsin) – Late June???

This is a great gathering put on at The Cove right here in town by the great folks at Troll Lord Games. I’ll be there as long as it doesn’t conflict with Origins!

Origins Game Fair (Columbus, Ohio) – June 24-28, 2009

Origins is run by GAMA, so I will be there both as a selling exhibitor (and helping run game events and demos!) as well as my functions as Vice President of the GAMA Board. This is a fantastic show with a ridiculous number of games to play.

Comic-Con International (San Diego, California) – July 23-26, 2009

Comic-Con is the biggest show I’ve ever attended, and runs the full range of entertainment and pop culture. It’s a trek just to get from one side of the hall to ther other, and there is simply no way to see and do it all. I’ll be selling products at a booth, meeting with licensing partners, and hanging out with my SoCal friends. And once confirmed, I may have some extra cool stuff to announce about this show in the future!

Gen Con Game Fair (Indianapolis, Indiana) – August 13-16, 2009

For most hobby game manufacturers, this is the biggest convention of the year. What started as a small weekend of gaming right next door at Horticultural Hall is now a gigantic event hosting well over 25,000 people! I’ll be there selling games, answering questions, speaking on panels, and singing karaoke.

Dragon*Con (Atlanta, Georgia) – September 4-7, 2009

Dragon*Con is my hometown Con in Georgia, which started as a much smaller event that has grown to being the southeast hotspot for fandom of all kinds (not to mention partying for four days straight). I’m a guest again this year, which is awesome considering I used to sleep on the floor of friends’ hotel rooms or get my Dad to drive me back and forth.

Con on the Cob (Hudson, Ohio) – October 15-18, 2009

My friend (and former Sovereign Stone artist) Andy Hopp has invited me to come as a guest for Con on the Cob. This will be my first time at this show, but anything with “Games, Art, Freaks, and Fun” has gotta be right up my alley!

Rock-Con (Rockford, Illinois) – October 23-25, 2009

This is a regional convention hosted by my friends at Regal Distributors and Noble Miniatures, and is also the host of John Kovalic’s annual DorkStock! We’ll have a table and I’ll run some games and play in even more! It’s always a good time, with plenty of game industry locals who like to show up and get in on the fun.

Lucca Comics & Games (Lucca, Italy) – October 30 – November 2, 2009

Tentative … but I’d really like to return this year! I’ve attended LC&G every other year since 2003 and not only do I have a great time, enjoy the chance to connect with Italian gamers and fans, am in love with the food/coffee/wine/architecture, but the organizers and volunteers have become true and dear friends who I do not get to see very often! This amazing convention is held in gigantic outdoor tents around the medieval, walled town of Lucca and hosts a collection of amazing talent. Did I mention I’d love to return?

Jamie was asked to write a guest blog for SmartPop books and talk about the remake of the 80s scifi show V. Are the alien reptiles here to stay?

Book Review: The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian

The Conan stories have always been special to me, and I was motivated to read these tales again as nostalgia after losing my Dad. I remember a trip to Alabama, long ago, where Dad went to his old bookshelf and scrounged for a beaten-up paperback. It showed a grim, dark-haired warrior standing on a pile [...]

Horrible Entertainment

I come from a very musical family. Mom fell for Dad when he was a rhythm guitarist and backup singer for a country and rock cover band — and he looked a little like John Lennon and sounded a bit like Paul McCartney. I grew up with Dad singing “Here Comes the Sun” to me [...]

Trip to Hell’s Church

Good evening — or morning — folks!
I just returned from an evening expedition a place here in Canton, Georgia known to the locals as “Hell’s Church.” It is a place of urban legend, supernatural rumor, and the site of real-life crime when the church was burned to the ground in 1990.
I’ll keep the names of [...]

I was gonna head to the office today, but tonight's dinner requires a lot of prep and attention, so I gotta stay close to home base.
